Kiwanis Club of Jackson River Area: Distinguished Club Status Award

Covington, VA (March 7, 2023) - The Kiwanis Club of the Jackson River Area was formally awarded the Distinguished Club Award for 2021-2022 by the Capital District Kiwanis on March 3rd during its recent conference in Arlington, VA. The Capital District encompasses all Kiwanis Clubs in Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia and the District of Columbia.

Susan Knick, the club’s immediate past president says: “Earning distinguished status is something all clubs strive for each year. It’s a major accomplishment and a great honor. To reach this award during our inaugural year as a club is a testament to the commitment and hours of hands-on work our club members have volunteered to our community.”

Distinguished designation is based on criteria that include membership growth, leadership education, and community service.

“Our club sponsors Kiwanis Book Nook lending libraries in Iron Gate outside the town hall and in the County at Dunlap Fire & Rescue Main Station with more locations to be added this year,” continued Knick. “Annually we hold a Cops & Kids Reading Together program in the public schools, participate in community beautification drives, assist the Salvation Army with its Red Kettle fundraising and many other numerous service projects within the community throughout the year.”

The Jackson River Area Kiwanis meets at 6:30 p.m. on the third Tuesday of each month. They welcome new members to join the club whose mission is to improve the world one child and one community at a time.
