Craig Allen West

West Gets 12 Year Active Jail Term In Alleghany County Circuit Court

Covington, VA (Jan. 23, 2023) - Craig Allen West, 44, was sentenced in the Alleghany County Circuit Court on January 23, 2023 to serve 12 years in the penitentiary on six felony convictions and three misdemeanor convictions involving drug and firearm violations.

On October 4, 2022, West was tried in front of Judge Edward K. Stein, and found guilty of six felonies: 1) possession of more than 10 grams of methamphetamine with the intent to distribute; 2) possession of a firearm by a convicted felon; 3) possession of a firearm while possessing methamphetamine with an intent to distribute; 4) possession of a firearm while possessing methamphetamine and oxycodone; 5) possession of methamphetamine; and 6) possession of oxycodone. In addition, West was found guilty of three misdemeanors: 1) reckless handling of a firearm; 2) obstruction of justice; and 3) brandishing a firearm. In total, West was sentenced to 28 years in the penitentiary, to be suspended after serving 12 years of active time. Following his release, West will be placed on supervised probation for 3 years.

According to the evidence presented in court, the Alleghany County Sheriff’s Office conducted a felony traffic stop on West stemming from a January 30, 2022 incident. During the arrest, deputies recovered a firearm, methamphetamine and oxycodone from West’s vehicle. Further investigation resulted in the seizure of another firearm and over 10 grams of methamphetamine from West’s home
