Mary Asma, the 2022 Highlands Christmas Mother

Highlands YMCA Assisting Christmas Mother Program

Low Moor, VA (Nov. 14, 2022) - The Alleghany Highlands YMCA is lending a hand to the Highlands Christmas Mother Mary Asma by collecting much-needed items.

The YMCA is collecting paper products, cleaning supplies, diapers, cleansing wipes, personal care items, children’s toys and books, clothing, school supplies, towels, blankets and kitchen supplies.

“We’re pleased to help this worthy cause,” said Jennifer Unroe, Alleghany Highlands YMCA CEO. “If we can brighten one Christmas, then it’s totally worth the effort. The Christmas Mother program is one way that our staff and members can demonstrate the social responsibility impact of the Y organization on our community.”

The YMCA is also accepting items for teen stocking stuffers, including hoodies, touch gloves, cosmetics, makeup wipes, hairbrushes and toiletries.

"The theme of the Y is improving yourself, and we're improving all ages in the community through the Christmas Mother program," Mrs. Asma said.

For anyone who wishes to help, simply take one of the ornaments off the Christmas tree in front of the Member Services Desk at the YMCA, purchase the needed items and place them in boxes under the tree. They will be delivered to the Christmas Mother as distribution dates draw closer. Items must be new and do not need to be wrapped.

“You can leave your new gift at the YMCA until Dec. 4,” Mrs. Asma added.

Snce its inception, the Alleghany Highlands YMCA has provided a variety of youth and family programs and expanded memberships and services into all of the Alleghany Highlands communities.
