JRTC and Kars Unlimited Partner to Support Local Students   Covington, VA (May 11, 2022) - Kars Unlimited hosted a Cruise-In event at Jackson River Technical Center on Saturday, April 16, 2022. The event raised money in support of graduating area high school seniors interested in pursuing a career in the automotive industry. The event raised $1,200, and Kars Unlimited plans to host the event annually as a way to support JRTC Automotive students and the community. JRTC Automotive Technology Instructor Joseph Hubble shared that trained technicians are in high demand, especially within the local community. The funds will be utilized to purchase a set of starter tools that can cost as much as $700 per set for graduates to help them start their careers in the automotive industry. JRTC Automotive students will need to complete all sections of the program, apply for the award, and go through a rigorous selection process. Jackson River Technical Center was established in 1974 and originally opened as Jackson River Vocational Center. JRTC is governed by representatives from the two local school systems, Covington City and Alleghany County School Boards. Currently, there are nine programs of study, including automotive, carpentry, computer systems technology, culinary arts, early childhood education, electricity, marketing, nurse aide/health assistant, and welding.
