Griffith Lane Deaths Rock Clifton Forge Thursday, Jan. 13, 2022   (Editor's note: the original report of a "murder/suicide" event on Griffith Lane apparently has been contradicted by the medical examiner's report, according to local sources from the AlleghanyJournal.com. Sources have told the Journal that Tanner Nicely's death occurred first and Brian Nicely's death next, with both apparently committing suicide.) * * * Clifton Forge, VA (Jan. 13, 2022) - The Alleghany County/Covington Sheriff's Office was called to a scene at Griffith Lane not far from Clifton Forge last night about 8:15 p.m. Dead at the scene were two relatives, Brian Scott Nicely, 59 and Tanner L. Nicely, 20. Exactly when the two deaths occurred or who shot who will be yesterday will be the subject of the medical examiner's determination. There was a handgun at the scene. Both had gunshot wounds to the head. The Sheriff's Dept. does believe that this is a murder-suicide case, and doesn't believe that there is any outside threat to the community. The Sheriff's Dept. was assisted by the Virginia State Police and the Clifton Forge Police Dept. (When the medical examiner's report is made available, the Journal will have more on this subject.)
