Resilience Training Workshops Begin Feb. 12 at DSLCC   Clifton Forge, VA (Jan. 23, 2020) - A series of seven workshops on β€œMaster Resilience Training,” presented by U.S. Army Career Counselor and Recruiter Staff Sergeant Kevin George, will be held at Dabney S. Lancaster Community College beginning February 12, and continuing on Wednesdays through April 8. The workshops will be held from 11:30 am to 12:30 pm in Moomaw Center on the DSLCC Clifton Forge campus and broadcast simultaneously to the DSLCC Rockbridge Regional Center in Buena Vista. They are being sponsored by DSLCC Student Activities, TRIO Student Support Services and the U.S. Army. Resilience training includes topics such as problem solving, mental games, shutting down counterproductive thinking and assertive communication, among many others. A resilient person is described as someone who β€œis willing to take calculated, necessary risks and to capitalize on opportunity. Resilience is the ability to grow and thrive in the face of challenges and bounce back from adversity.” The first workshop on February 12 will cover goal setting, understanding your reactions to a situation, and energy management. The remaining workshops and topics: Feb. 19 – Avoiding thinking traps and putting things in perspective; Feb. 26 – Identifying and evaluating core beliefs and core values that fuel out-of-proportion emotions and reactions; March 11 – Problem solving; March 18 – Changing the focus away from and shutting down counterproductive thinking; March 25 – Assertive communication, effective praise and constructive responses; April 8 – Identifying character strengths in ourselves and others; challenges and leadership.
