Dr. Rollinson To Present Programs About China, Sri Lanka

Clifton Forge, VA (Jan. 22, 2020) - The latest adventures of a well-traveled couple, Susan and Lon Rollinson of Clifton Forge, will be the topic of two programs scheduled in Moomaw Center on the Clifton Forge campus of Dabney S. Lancaster Community College. The programs may also be viewed simultaneously in Room 912 at the DSLCC Rockbridge Regional Center in Buena Vista. Dr. Sue Rollinson, who has had a long association with DSLCC, will be the presenter.

The topic of the first talk, China, will be given on Tuesday, January 28, from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The Rollinsons spent 19 days in April and May of last year sampling the food and culture in Beijing, Xi’an, Lhasa (Tibet), Chongqing, the Yangtze River and Shanghai.

The second program will be about Sri Lanka, on Tuesday, February 11, also from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The Rollinsons traveled there in 2016, visiting historic Buddhist sites, gardens, tea plantations, beaches and wildlife.

A native of Chicago, Dr. Rollinson has been affiliated with DSLCC since 1980. She has taught chemistry, computer applications (Word, Excel, web design), and environmental science and was the first director of the Jackson River Governor’s School (2000-2007). She has been the director/co-director/webmaster for the Field Ecology Summer Regional Governor’s School since 2000.

Dr. Rollinson met her husband, Lon, while they were both grad students at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. They have three grown children. After three-year stints each in Raleigh, Richmond, and India, the Rollinsons retired, returned to Clifton Forge, and started on their “bucket list” of domestic and international travel.

These programs are free and open to the public. For more information contact DSLCC Student Activities at (540) 863-2828.
