UPDATED: Via Pair Charged As 27 Dogs Found At Johnson's Creek Road Residence

Covington, VA (Dec. 9, 2019) - The Alleghany County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call at 4520 Johnson’s Creek Road over the weekend stating that there was an awful smell coming from the residence, and no one was living there with some dogs.

When deputies arrived they found 27 dogs living alone inside the house and in a shed. On Monday deputies met with the owners of the animals who surrendered the dogs to the Alleghany Humane Society.

They in turn contacted the Angels of Assisi who along with deputies and humane staff removed the animals who were then transported to ROANOKE. The owners had been feeding and watering the dogs, but not removing the feces from inside the buildings.

Corporal Laura Mclain is in the process of charging a 57-year-old white male (Robert Via) with 21 counts of animal cruelty along with 21 counts of not having a dog license, and 21 counts of not having a rabies vaccination. Also his 25 year old white female daughter (Kaytelyn Via) is facing 6 counts of animal cruelty, along with 6 counts of not having dog licenses, and 6 counts of not having a rabies vaccination.

Animal Control officer Todd Ailstock assisted with this case.
