| Clifton Forge, VA (Nov. 5, 2019) - "The Clifton Forge Public Library is pleased to help Clifton Forge School of the Arts celebrate its 8th annual KRISKINDLMARKT with their November display, âKRISKINDLMARKT: A Holiday Tradition in the Alleghany Highlands.âÂ
Executive Director, Laura Rainone, and School of the Arts member of the Board of Directors, Lisa Petrosky, arranged the exhibit which highlights the work of the Schoolâs instructors:  German fiber artist Andrea Curry, whose Scandinavian Tomtes  spread holiday cheer; hand-forged work by Blacksmith Glen Bryant; Jewelry by artist Mar Jimenez; a one-of-a-kind wooden tribute to KRISKINDLMARKT by woodworker Rolf Brunner; hand-painted gourds by artist Lisa Petrosky; and pottery by Cyndy Littleton of Fire and Clay Studios. Â
âThese pieces offer just a glimpse of the beautiful work which will be available for purchase during KRISKINDLMARKT,â Rainone says. âKRISKINDLMARKT looks and smells like a European Christmas village. Last year we welcomed more than 1500 guests, and weâve grown into a âcanât missâ event in the Alleghany Highlands.â
She continues, âClifton Forge School of the Arts, the community art school of the Alleghany Highlands, invites you to enjoy âThe Millâ (our repurposed, unheated, over 100 years old, lumber mill behind the School) filled with laughter, lights, holiday scents and cheer, live music, shopping and entertainment.â This venue will be open on Friday, November 22 from 2:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., and on Saturday, November 23 from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. âPlease dress warmly,â Rainone advises.
Also on Saturday, German Father Christmas will visit from 10:00 a.m. to 11 a.m. and again from 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. The Bier Garten will also be available from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. with German and domestic beers and authentic hot German food and snacks. âThere will be no shopping during the Bier Garten,â Rainone says, âso come early and then stay to enjoy the Bier Garten.â
A variety of artisan crafts will be displayed. Rainone says, âAll of our vendors sell items they have made themselves. Youâll find wood-turned bowls and kitchen tools, cutting boards, fresh greenery, hand-made sweaters, felted wool hats, bags and purses, blacksmith-forged items, soaps and lotions, pottery, antique tiles, knit and crochet arts, photography, painted art, jewelry, Christmas ornaments, candies and chocolate, decorative gourds, quilts and quilted items, designer wreaths, hand-sewn aprons and clothing, maple syrup and baked goods, and so much more.â
Rainone continues, âFood and drink, for dine-in or take-out, will include European-style breads and pastries, German beer and Gluhwein (ages 21 and older), apple cider and cold beverages.â
KRISKINDLMARKT will also include raffles and a silent auction. Rounding out the activities will be a display of miniature holiday trains by collector Dale Perry for the enjoyment of the visitors.Â
