DSLCC Scholarship Named in His Memory

New Scholarship Announced by DSLCC Educational Foundation

Clifton Forge, VA (Dec. 6, 2018) - A new scholarship honoring the memory of the late Charles Lynn Weakley, Jr., has been established by his son-in-law and daughter, Steve and Martha Weakley Nicholson of Covington, at Dabney S. Lancaster Community College, it was announced today by Rachael Thompson, Executive Director of the DSLCC Educational Foundation.

The two-semester scholarship is available to graduating high school seniors who reside in the DSLCC service area, and although open to all areas of study, preference will be given to business students. The scholarship applies to tuition and books.

Weakley, a native of Richmond, worked in advertising for Miller and Rhodes in the Richmond area, and for National Fruit, the maker of White House apple products, in Winchester. Later, he opened a franchise of Snelling and Snelling, a professional employment agency, helping hundreds of citizens find job placements.

He was an active member of the community with memberships in the Lions Club, Ruritans, Rouss Fire Company and his church. A graduate of RPI (now Virginia Commonwealth University), the married father of three loved his family, gardening and animals. According to his family, he especially enjoyed sharing his flowers and garden vegetables with friends.

"He was a kind, gentle man who will always be remembered for his words of wisdom to his children: 'do the right thing'," says his daughter, Martha Weakley Nicholson.

The scholarship application for this opportunity, as well as more than 100 scholarship opportunities, is now available at www.dslcc.edu/scholarships, with a submission deadline of February 25, 2019.
