WestRock's Alleghany Highlands Operations Announces Position Changes

 
Covington, VA (Sept. 14, 2018) - WestRock’s Alleghany Highlands Operations announces position changes that were internally announced in the third quarter.

Michael McCraw has accepted the position of E&I planner / supervisor in Recovery. In this position, he is responsible for all E&I maintenance activities in the Recovery area and ensuring adherence to safe work practices and guidelines.

McCraw attended Greenbrier East Vocational for Electric and HVAC from 1992 - 1993. He began his career with KAMTech Inc. as an electrician in March 1997 and joined H&M Electric as an electrician in September 2001. McCraw accepted the position of maintenance electrician for Mullican Flooring in May 2004 before returning to H&M Electric as foreman in November 2005. Most recently, he was general foreman for Miller Electric, a position he accepted in May 2014.

Conor Chadwick has accepted the position of lead financial analyst in the Finance department. He is the process lead for the mill’s financial reporting and analysis including the monthly close, forecasting process, and annual budgeting process. Chadwick will also provide analytical support to the Maintenance and Power / Recovery departments. He will continue in the lead role developing and implementing financial models as we continue the transition from SAP to JDE.

Chadwick received his B.S. in Finance from Penn State University in May 2015 and joined the Covington mill as a financial analyst in September 2015. He was promoted to senior financial analyst in August 2017. Chadwick has recently been accepted into the Raymond A. Mason School of Business MBA program at William and Mary University and plans to begin this program in August 2019.

John Stone has accepted the position of tank integrity planner / supervisor. In this position, he is responsible for project management, supervising tank and pressure vessel inspections and repairs, and maintaining documentation for the mill’s Tank and Pressure Vessel Program.

Stone received his certificate in Pulp and Paper Technology from DSLCC in 1994. While attending college from 1992 to 1995, Stone worked for the Covington mill in the Main Lab and Product Development departments through Manpower. He became a mill employee in 1995 when he accepted the position of laborer. He worked as a second assistant in the Unbleached Pulp Mill and Woodyard from 1997 to 2008 and accepted the position of fiberline foreman in 2008. In 2011, Stone accepted the position of maintenance planner in the Woodyard, and later that year, he became maintenance planner in the Unbleached Pulp Mill.

Terri Carper has accepted the position of fiberline planner / supervisor. In this position, she is responsible for scheduling and supervising daily maintenance work, outage maintenance work, and managing and controlling the budget for the Unbleached Pulp Mill.

Carper received her A.A.S. in Mechanical Design from DSLCC in 1986 and a certificate in Pulp & Paper Technology from DSLCC in 1990. She also received a B.S. degree in Civil Engineering Technology from Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia, in 2007. She began her career as a drafter at Burlington Industries in Glasgow, Virginia, in 1986. She joined the Covington mill in 1988 and held various positions in the Engineering department, including the position of senior CAD specialist. From 2010 to 2011, she held two concurrent positions: one with Waco Inc. as an engineer and the second as a consultant for contractor safety, PSM, and LOTO with CLEAR, LLC. Carper returned to the Covington mill in 2011 as tank integrity planner / supervisor.

Kagen Crawford has joined WestRock as an early career development (ECD) associate in the ECD Program. He will rotate through three 8-month assignments in three different WestRock locations. The Covington mill is Crawford’s second assignment. He is currently assigned to the Recovery department where he will focus on improvements to the washing operation in the recausticizing plant.

Crawford earned his B.S. in Chemical Engineering from Mississippi State University in August 2017 and received his EIT certification from the Mississippi Board of Professional Engineers in July 2017. Prior to his employment at WestRock, he was an undergraduate researcher at MSU and served two co-op terms at WestRock’s Stevenson, Alabama, mill. Crawford began his first ECD rotation as a process engineer in the Technical department at the Florence, South Carolina, mill.

Matthew Hadfield has accepted the position of E&I reliability supervisor. In this position, he is responsible for E&I reliability improvements, including establishing and managing the valve repair program, storeroom inventory evaluation, and managing valve purchases in the mill.

Hadfield earned his B.S. in Business Management from Indiana University of Pennsylvania in 1994. He was self-employed from 1994 - 1997 before accepting the position of supervisor at the Brickman Group in Richmond, Virginia. In 1999, Hadfield joined Carter Machinery’s sales department in Richmond, and in 2001, he became an account manager at Otis Elevator with responsibility to the Richmond and Roanoke areas. Most recently, he worked for Control Dynamics as the account manager for the southwestern Virginia territory, a position he began in 2006.

Jacob Fraley has accepted the position of process engineer in the Technical department. He will rotate through various departments in the mill to complete specific improve-the-mill projects. Fraley is currently assigned to Stock and Additives where he will work with daily operations and complete projects related to electrical and instrumentation in the Starch Kitchen. He will also contribute to reliability and cost improvement initiatives in the Stock and Additives department.

Fraley earned his B.S. in Electrical Engineering from West Virginia University in May 2018. He interned in the Quality department at the Covington mill during summer 2017.

Jeremy Thomas has accepted the position of MES analyst at the Covington mill. In this position, he is responsible for supporting the manufacturing execution systems of WestRock including but not limited to: Ekho, PI, and Optivision with an emphasis on Ekho.

Thomas earned his A.A.S. degree in Information Systems at DSLCC and earned a Regents B.A. from West Virginia University. He began his career at the Covington mill as an hourly associate in January 2001 before transitioning to junior programmer in May 2001. Thomas accepted the position of systems analyst in May 2003 and was promoted to MES senior systems analyst in April 2008. Most recently, he worked as senior business systems analyst at Ingevity, a position he took in March 2016.

Trevor Statome has accepted the position of Electrical & Instrumentation planner. In this position, he is responsible for reliability-based E&I projects and will provide controls and automation support in the Paper Mill area.

Statome earned his A.A.S. degree in Electrical and Instrumentation at DSLCC in May 2017. He began his career as a PLC programmer and electrical engineer for Automated Conveyor Systems in Lynchburg, Virginia, in June 2017. Most recently, he worked at the Covington mill as a systems technician through Advanced Automation, a position he accepted in February 2018.
