 | Dr. Richard Teaff, President of Dabney S. Lancaster Community College (front row, left) and Louise Belmont of the Clifton Forge School of the Arts (front row, right) sign an agreement between the College and the School of the Arts which will result in expanded programming at the new facility, located on Church Street in Clifton Forge. Belmont, along with Helen Kostel, Meade Snyder, and Henrietta Crandall, are partners in the Clifton Forge Company, a nonprofit group that guided the formation of the School. A reception for the community was held recently to celebrate the opening of the School. Plans are to schedule arts-related courses that are both recreational and vocational in nature and that encourage cultural enrichment. Another goal of the School is to serve as a resource to support the development of the local economy. The Arts School will begin with photography workshops, children's art classes and blacksmithing. A pottery studio will open soon. Partnering with the College, the officials of the School will work with Dr. Michael Scott, DSLCC’s Vice President for Instruction and Student Services, to explore the development of future classes. One goal is that local residents may take selected classes either on a non credit basis or enroll to earn credits that may be used toward academic requirements to complete a college curriculum.
