VSP Investigating Fatal Motorcycle Crash In Alleghany County Ashland, VA Man Dies At The Scene; Passenger Seriously Injured |
| Alleghany County, VA (Aug. 2, 2024) - Virginia State Police is investigating a motorcycle crash, which resulted in a fatality. The crash occurred Thursday (Aug 1) at 5:24 p.m. on Interstate 64, one and a quarter mile west of Route 696 in Alleghany County.
A 2007 Harley Davidson was traveling west at a high rate of speed on Interstate 64 at the 20.4-mile-marker. The motorcycle passed a vehicle, then ran off the right side of the roadway, striking the guardrail. The driver and the passenger were ejected from the motorcycle.
The driver of the Harley Davidson was identified as James Douglas Pittman, 55, of Ashland, Va. Mr. Pittman was wearing his helmet and died at the scene. The passenger was also wearing a helmet and was flown to Roanoke Memorial Hospital with life-threatening injuries.
