Covington Resident, Church of God Member, Dies At Age 77

Mr. Harold Dean Cooper, age 77, of Covington, Virginia, died Saturday, March 22, 2025, at LewisGale Hospital-Alleghany, Low Moor with his niece and caregiver, Betsy Griffin, by his side.

He was born June 18, 1947, in Alleghany County, a son of the late Flora Mae Mullins and Renny N. Cooper.

A lifetime resident of this community, Mr. Cooper loved going to life skills and talking to his friends. He also enjoyed building puzzles, going on rides, and getting milkshakes, as well as sitting on his porch drinking coffee.

Dean was a member of the Church of God.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Cooper was preceded in death by his sisters, Oman Griffin, Alice Cooper, Sue Gray, Mavis Ryder, Helen Vipperman, Grace Webb, Nellie Marie Fielder, and his brothers, Doug Cooper, Mark Cooper, Steve Cooper, Billy Cooper, Jerry Cooper, Tex Cooper, and Jack Cooper.

Mr. Cooper is survived by a sister, Betty Cooper Walton of Rich Patch, and a number of nieces and nephews who loved him dearly including special nieces, Betsy Griffin, Mary Webb (Avery), and Alice Ramirez as well as numerous great nieces and nephews.
