Eagle Rock Resident, Longtime C&O Restaurant Cook and First Baptist Church Member of Iron Gate, Dies At Age 88

Carolyn Jean Hughson Allen, age 88, of 23711 Botetourt Road, Eagle Rock, Virginia died on Wednesday, January 15, 2025 at Lewis Gale Medical Center in Salem.

Carolyn was born on June 3, 1936 in Clifton Forge, Virginia to the late Lottie Hughson.

She was a retired cook for the former C & O Restaurant and Life Spans in Clifton Forge, and also for Macke at Hercules.

She was a member of First Baptist Church of Iron Gate.

In addition to her mother, Carolyn was preceded in death by two grandsons, Naeshawn Jefferson and Anthony Dyrome Allen; two granddaughters, Michelle Renee Allen and Coco Allen; and a nephew, Willie Allen.

She is survived by her husband of 70 years, William H. Allen, Jr. of Clifton Forge; four daughters, Velma Jeffries and William "Billy" Miller of Clifton Forge, Robin Lynn Allen and Charles "Van" Morris of Iron Gate, Deborah "Nikki" Allen and Gregory "Dino" Jeter of Iron Gate, and Latyja Armstrong of Clifton Forge; a son, William Allen III and Angela Allen of Clifton Forge; three sisters, Gloria McIntyre of New York, Geraldine Allen of Clifton Forge, and Kathryn Jean Godfrey of Clifton Forge; a number of grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews, including a special nephew, Richard Naylor of Pittsburgh; and a very special friend, Mrs. Beatrice "B.B." Smith of Clifton Forge.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, January 24, 2025 at 2:00 p.m. in Pine Street Baptist Church, Covington, with Reverend Harold Preston officiating. Interment will follow in Red Hill Cemetery, Clifton Forge. The family will receive friends on Friday from 1:00 p.m. until the time of service at the church. Carolyn's grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

The Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge, is in charge of arrangements.
