New Alleghany HIGHLAND School Division Celebrated
School Consolidation In The Alleghany Highlands Finally Achieved, Celebrated

Covington, VA (June 30, 2022) - After a brief ceremony held earlier this evening, a large group of community members celebrated the creation of the combined school divisions of both the city of Covington and that of Alleghany County at the Jackson River Sports Complex.

A hearty pair of welcomes were given by both local Superintendents of Schools, Melinda Snead-Johnson and Kim Halterman along with thanks to the many who served on committees, provided all sorts of support, ideas, and more to make the combination a reality.

The Fenderbenders Acoustic Trio delighted the crowd with many well-known tunes and then later, a brilliant firworks display capped off the evening.

Pastor Stephanie Clark provided a rousing rendition of the Star-Spangled Banner and then offered prayer to get the event off to a great start.

There were other brief remarks made by Jackson River Technical Center Director Glenn Spanger and local community college president John Rainone.
