Covid-19 Staff Case Closes Clifton Middle School Until Nov. 9, 2020

(Editor's note: the following is a verbatim news release from the acting superintendent's office of the Alleghany County School Division)

Low Moor, VA (Oct. 27, 2020) - "Alleghany County Public School (ACPS) Division Central Office was informed late evening on Monday, October 26, 2020, of a confirmed positive COVID-19 case with a staff member at Clifton Middle School (CMS).

"Students, faculty, and staff did not report to school on October 27, 2020, with no virtual/remote instruction to allow the Virginia Department of Health (VDH) to conduct thorough contact tracing. As a result of the contact tracing practices, Clifton Middle School met the threshold of a 20% exposure rate in the building; therefore, it is VDH’s recommendation and best practice that the Clifton Middle School building remains, predominantly, vacant until Monday, November 9, 2020, with all instruction and learning turning to a 100% virtual/remote model from Wednesday, October 28, 2020, through Friday, November 6, 2020.

"CMS in-person instruction will resume on Monday, November 9, 2020, on the A/B hybrid, blended model. Essential personnel and various other staff will be contacted directly by supervisors in regards to any placements, hours, and/or days during the building vacancy.

"Be assured that ACPS continues to monitor and process a great deal of information as it pertains to COVID-19 in order to ensure the safety of all students, faculty, and staff and know that safety is paramount to ACPS."
