Holden Kerr and Lily Moreschi

Chamber of Commerce Awards 2020 PMHS & RCHS Scholarships
Kerr, Moreschi Are Recipients

Lexington, VA (July 24, 2020) - The Chamber of Commerce serving Lexington, Buena Vista and Rockbridge County has awarded its 2020 scholarships to Parry McCluer High School senior Holden Kerr of Vesuvius and Rockbridge County High School senior Lily Moreschi of Lexington.

Kerr ranked 1st out of 63 students and was the Valedictorian of this year’s graduating class at PMHS. In addition to his involvement with the Interact Club, the National Honor Society and PMHS Outdoor Club, Holden was also a football team captain and member of the state champion indoor track team.

He demonstrated his entrepreneurial spirit during high school through an endeavor he called “Blues Chews.” He made and sold dog toys, earning $130 to benefit the Rockbridge SPCA. His interest in business operations will serve him well as he embarks on a career path in the medical field, with the ultimate goal of opening his own private pediatric practice in Rockbridge County.

Moreschi ranked 10th out of 194 students in this year’s graduating class from Rockbridge County High School and focused her studies on the humanities and social sciences. She also devoted much of her time to Rockbridge Ballet, where she was a Senior Company dancer.

Throughout her high school career, Moreschi was involved with Project Connection (PC), a local teen-led 501(c)(3) nonprofit that works with high schoolers and children with disabilities. The mission of the nonprofit is to foster compassion and community between Rockbridge teenagers and their "buddies." Her experiences with the organization helped shape her interest in the field of business, guiding her toward a career path in nonprofit management and marketing.

We wish both of our scholarship recipients the best as they make plans to continue their education this fall. Kerr will attend the University of Virginia to major in either Biology or pre-medical studies. Moreschi plans to attend St. Olaf’s College to major in Sociology/Anthropology and Dance with a Management Studies concentration.

The mission of the Chamber of Commerce is to champion civic and economic progress for our community. We are thankful to our 2020 Diamond Level sponsors – Carilion Stonewall Jackson Hospital, CornerStone Bank, Virginia Military Institute, and Washington and Lee University – as well as Great Valley Farm Brewery & Winery, for their generous contributions to our annual scholarship fund.
