Friends of the Library Sponsoring Two Raffles   Clifton Forge, VA (Nov. 19, 2018) - The Clifton Forge Public Library is pleased to announce that the Friends of the Library are sponsoring two raffles. Popular children’s author Madeleine L’Engle’s series, “The Wrinkle in Time Quintet” is a single hardbound volume still in the original shrink wrapping. It contains the unabridged versions of the five volumes: “A Wrinkle in Time;” “A Wind in the Door;” “A Swiftly Tilting Planet;” “Many Waters;” and, “An Acceptable Time.” The 50th anniversary deluxe volume features gilded pages, a ribbon bookmark, and a full color insert of each book’s original jacket art. L’Engle’s series is considered a classic that changed the way the world looks at fantasy novels. Also being raffled is an original ”heart art” print by Joan Perry. Entitled “Evergreen Hope,” Ms. Perry created this picture for the 2005 Highland Maple Festival. The previous year, Highland County had been selected to provide the Christmas tree for our nation’s Capitol. A 70-foot tall red spruce was chosen, sealed in a protective wrap, and flown to Washington, D.C. Ms. Perry created “Evergreen Hope” as a “tribute to the folks of Highland County, Virginia, and all others who possess the same spirit of selfless love, commitment to serve others, and sacrificial living.” The print is numbered 087/150. Ms. Perry was born in Clifton Forge and later spent summers in town and at the Cowpasture River with her grandparents, Ryland and Helen Paxton. Mr. Paxton served as a police officer and volunteered at the firehouse. Ms. Perry is the daughter of Nancy and Charles Wood Paxton. Raffle tickets are $1.00 each; or, six tickets for $5.00, and are available at the Library. The drawings will be held on December 17. Proceeds are used by the Friends of the Library to support the library’s book and media collections, and to assist with library services and programs.
