Volatile Situation Ends Without Loss Of Life In Glasgow
Glasgow, VA (July 5, 2018) - Around midnight on Thursday, July 5th, deputies responded to the Dollar General Store in Glasgow after receiving a call that reported a domestic situation that had taken place the previous day. After speaking with a portion of the involved parties, deputies responded to the 1000 block of Kanawha Street to continue their investigation.
While approaching the Kanawha Street residence, Deputy K.M. Randozzo was confronted by Joseph Ryan Brown, a 33-year-old white male who had just recently moved to Glasgow. During this confrontation, Brown pointed a pistol at Deputy Randozzo, then turned the pistol on himself, before retreating to the residence. Brown then began barricading himself inside the residence.

The Sheriffâ€™s SWAT team was activated to back up and supplement the deputies already on-scene. Sheriff Chris Blalock arrived with the SWAT team and ordered that a perimeter be set-up around the residence containing Brown and that the neighboring residences be evacuated. The Glasgow Fire Department assisted the Sheriff with the evacuation and housed the neighbors for the remainder of the incident.
Sheriff Blalock had his Chief Deputy, Captain Tony McFaddin, establish contact with Brown in an attempt to deescalate the situation. After approximately 28 minutes of dialogue between Brown and Captain McFaddin, Brown laid down his pistol, walked out of the residence, and submitted to being arrested.
â€œI am very proud of the way that my deputies resolved this very dangerous situation. The character and professionalism that they display on a daily basis aided them in deescalating this very volatile confrontation and helped bring it to a peaceful conclusion," said Sheriff Blalock.

â€¢ Abduction â€“ felony
â€¢ Strangulation â€“ felony
â€¢ Possession of a firearm by a felon â€“ felony
â€¢ Preventing person from calling 911 - misdemeanor
Amy Lawrence, a 33 year-old white female from Glasgow:
