Lexington Police Foundation Hot Pursuit 5K and 150th celebration concert in April

 
Lexington, VA (March 11, 2018) - The Lexington Police Foundation will be hosting its first ever Hot Pursuit 5K. The 5K run/walk will start at 10:30 a.m. on April 21st, 2018. This fundraiser is a chip-timed event and will be held at the Virginia Horse Center. Pre-registration for adults and kids aged 13-18 is $25, children 12 and under are free with paid adult registrant. Local university students may participate for a discounted fee of $15. Pricing includes an event t-shirt, lunch, and free entrance to a concert held that evening. Pre-registration cutoff is March 17th to receive discounts and t-shirts. Gold, Silver and Bronze medals will be awarded in ten age categories.

Following the 5K event, teams from law enforcement agencies from around Virginia will compete for the trophy in the “Police Challenge Games.” Police departments and sheriff’s offices from around Virginia will compete against each other in physical events to see who is the best in the Commonwealth.

The Hot Pursuit event is a celebration in honor of the Lexington Police Department’s 150th anniversary. The day will close with an evening community concert event featuring The Cross-Eyed Cats. This concert, which is open to the public, runs from 6 to 9 p.m.​ Tickets for the concert are $5, while children 12 and under are free. Race participants receive a complimentary ticket and can purchase additional tickets as needed.

For 8 years the Lexington Police Foundation has provided special resources to the Department to help develop innovative programs and projects. The Foundation has also provided assistance and support to our police officers through scholarships, supplemental training and other programs which support the officers and their families.

Recent Lexington Police Foundation accomplishments include the purchase of new winter coats for officers, the purchase of tourniquet holders for officers’ duty belts, and tuition assistance to officers working toward college degrees.

Future plans include the purchase of new police bicycles in support of the department’s Community Policing goals, a live scan fingerprinting system, new fitness equipment for officers, and continuing education support as well as community awareness and support programs.
