Christmas Eve Service at First Presbyterian Church

 
Covington, VA (Dec. 16, 2017) - First Presbyterian Church in Covington will hold its traditional Christmas Eve Service of Lessons and Carols with Candle Lighting at 4:45 p.m. on Sunday, December 24.

Participating will be the Rev. Jim Slate, lay readers, the Chancel Choir, Hand Bell Choir, soloists and instrumentalists.

     Soloists will be Susan Wood, alto; Miquel Petrosky, baritone; Joe Wilson, flute and Ronnie Linkenhoker, baritone and bassoon. Sandra Minter, the church’s director of music, will be organist and pianist.

     The Service of Lessons and Carols is adapted from the Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols that has been celebrated annually at King’s College, Cambridge, England, since 1918. The birth of Jesus is told in short scripture readings from Genesis, the prophetic books and the Gospels, interspersed with the singing of Christmas carols and anthems.
