Clifton Forge, VA (Dec. 11, 2017) - A team representing Dabney S. Lancaster Community College placed fifth in the John G. Palmer Invitational Woodsman’s Meet, which was held recently in the Pisgah National Forest in North Carolina. The meet was hosted by Haywood Community College, in Clyde, NC, the site of the first college forestry program in the U.S. From left: Seth Thomas of Henrico County; Jacob McKee of Richmond County; Gary Hall-Matson of Amherst County; Dakota Payne and Margaret Lawrence, both of Rockbridge County; Jessica Reigel of Greenbrier County, WV; Clay Smith of Alleghany County; Shane Rudd of Chesterfield County; Coach Scott Reigel; Sam Rhodes of Shenandoah County; and Steven Tyree of Nelson County. The team competed in such events as chain sawing, pole climbing, axe throwing and cross-cut sawing. The Woodsman’s Meet is an annual event featuring forestry programs from seven colleges.
