Highlands Drug Task Force Begins 'Operation Holiday Greetng'

Covington, VA (Nov. 30, 2017) - Many members of the Alleghany Highlands Regional Drug Task Force fanned out all across the area earlier today to arrest the seventy individuals who were indicted this fall by a special grand jury on various drug-related counts.

The seventy individuals have been charged with 289 separate crimes and some of the individuals apparently are repeat offenders.

The drug task force left Covington early today in groups, visiting various homes and businesses to find and arrest those being charged.

Alleghany County, Rockbridge County, Craig County and Bath County deputies were involved as well as the Virginia State Police and the Covington, Clifton Forge and Lexington Police Departments.

It normally takes s couple of days to round up this many suspects: that said, as parts of the operation were ending today, it was clear that some of the subjects had secured their release from jail via bonds.

Alleghany County Sheriff Kevin Hall told the AlleghanyJournal.com earlier today that he was pleased by the smooth operation and the fact that there had not been any injuries recorded.
