Clifton Forge Library Features Art Display

Clifton Forge, VA (Nov. 13, 2017) - The Clifton Forge Public Library is pleased to feature an art display by Sabrina Burks. The display includes original miniature clay art, charcoal sketches, and water color.

An eighth grade student at Clifton Middle School, Sabrina also does chalk art and calligraphy drawing.

Sabrina says she has “loved drawing forever.” Her mother recalls that she was drawing recognizable art as early as two years old. “Sabrina has natural talent,” she says. Sabrina has had no formal classes in art. She cites only the required art class each school year which, along with gym, is her favorite class.

Ms. Burks has won several awards including two first prizes and two third prizes through the annual art contest sponsored by the Women’s Club. As early as kindergarten, she won an award for a jellyfish she designed in watercolors with white crayon.

More recently, her 2016 watercolor called “Giraffes” won an award in the Spring Regional Forum Art Contest sponsored by the Virginia School Board Association. For one year, it was displayed on a rotating basis between the Office of the Virginia School Board Association in Charlottesville, VA, and the Office of the State Superintendent of Public Instruction in Richmond, VA. Since spring 2017, it has been on display in the School Board Office in Low Moor, VA, where it will remain until spring 2018. It is currently on loan from the School Board Office to the Clifton Forge Public Library for the month of November.

Sabrina, who celebrates her 14th birthday this month, is the daughter of Micah and Kimberly Burks.

The Art collection will be on display throughout the month of November.

The Clifton Forge Public Library is located at 535 Church Street.
