Clifton Forge Library Sponsoring Writing Contest: 'May The Fourth Be With You'   Clifton Forge, VA (April 3, 2017) - The Clifton Forge Public Library is sponsoring a writing contest based on the Stars Wars movie, “The Force Awakens”. Children aged 10-18 are invited to participate. The contest begins on Monday, April 3. Four of the key characters in the movie are Finn, a member of The First Order who abandons his post as a Stormtrooper; Rey, a capable and strong-willed fighter; Kylo Ren, who may be operating under orders from the powerful Dark Side or who may secretly desire to be a Sith; and, Poe Dameron, a talented and brave X-wing squadron leader. Students are asked to select one character and imagine what that person would have been like when he or she was the age of the student. Essays should be typed using a size 12 font and should be double-spaced. Essays should be 3-5 pages long and about 1000 words in length. The title page should include the students’ name, age, and contact information. Essays should be delivered to a staff person at the front desk of the Clifton Forge Public Library. All essays are due no later than 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 29. Essays will be divided into two age groups – ages 10-14, and ages 15-18. A team of judges will read each essay and will select three winners from each age group. Their selections will be finalized by 4:00 p.m. on May 4. Winners will be announced and prizes awarded that evening at the Historic Masonic Theatre. Winners do not have to be present. A showing of “The Force Awakens” will conclude the writing contest. It will begin at 7:00 p.m. on May 4 at the Historic Masonic Theatre. Admission is free. The Clifton Forge Public Library is located at 535 Church Street.
