'Little Brown Jug' Returns To Clifton Forge

Clifton Forge, VA (August 18, 2016) - Clifton Forge Town Councilman and former CFHS student Jeff Irvine finally got his wish today: he was able to work out an arrangement whereby the famous "Little Brown Jug" will now be on display at the Clifton Forge Library for a period of about two months.

The famous jug was the trophy awarded to the annual winner of the Clifton Forge High School vs. Covington High School annual football game. The series started on November 25, 1937 and lasted until November 25, 1982, with CFHS victorious in the final contest by the score of 12-0.

The jug's home has been at Covington High School for years after the merger of CFHS and the Alleghany County School System in 1983.

As it happened, one of, if not the most famous CFHS football players, B. C. Williams, was also on hand at the library this afternoon and was able to recount some interesting jug history, which the Alleghany Journal recorded.
